Communication competence is the ability to speak well and effectively using grammatically correct language and knowledge of communication patterns, allowing one to adapt and talk strategically in various situations. 

Goals set in the fall of 2021:

  • I will use communication competence within my future speeches, speaking clearly and effectively with as few errors as possible.

  • I will present a report on zoology or literature using communication competence

Adjusted goals:

  • I will choose valuable sources and incorporate them into my essay effectively.

  • I will capture the reader’s attention and present my analysis in an engaging and entertaining manner.

Creative problem solving is the technique of discovering how to solve problems specifically within your field of study, whether it be a process in the arts or a scientific process.

Goals set in the fall of 2021:

  • I will find new strategies to represent my personality through my artwork.

  • I will learn new scientific processes to study animal behavior and complete research in the zoological field

 

Adjusted goals: 

  • I will demonstrate a proficient understanding of dolphin behavior and foraging techniques. 

  • I will connect previously documented research in order to form my own hypothesis' and thoughts on the topic.

Creative Problem Solving

Learners will apply appropriate techniques to solving problems within their discipline.

Understanding the arts and the human experience demonstrates that you have comprehension and appreciation for art in itself and the context surrounding it, whether it be historical or personal.

Goas set in the fall of 2021: ​

  • I will conduct a study on three major artists and write about them and their artwork.​

  • I will study cultural artwork from three different countries and research the impact it has on society.

 

Adjusted goals:

  • I will develop an understanding of anthropomorphism and zoomorphism to clearly explain the differences within my assignment.

  • I will explore the significance and impacts that animals have had on humanity and culture throughout history.

Social scientific literacy is the ability to predict and describe natural phenomena through reading and understanding articles and engaging in social conversations about conclusions.

 

Goas set in the fall of 2021: ​

  • I will take a phycology class and study human action and consequence.​

  • I will demonstrate an ability to understand how human actions have impacted the zoological field.

​Adjusted goals:​

  • I will thoughtfully analyze an ethical dilemma to form a better understanding of basic human rights. 

  • I will choose a historical event I was unfamiliar with to study extensively.

Social Scientific Literacy

Learners will demonstrate an understanding of social science methodologies in order to explain the consequences of human actions.

Scientific Literacy is the knowledge of science and the ability to investigate and apply scientific reasoning to research or dig deeper into scientific studies.

 

Goas set in the fall of 2021: ​

  • ​I will develop scientific reasoning skills to apply in future research projects pertaining to either the zoological or biological fields.​

  • I will build scientific literacy 

Adjusted goals:

  • I will establish my basic foundations and skills for research in the field. 

  • I will demonstrate proficient knowledge of at least one salamander species.

Scientific Literacy

Learners will demonstrate scientific literacy by explaining the process of scientific reasoning and applying scientific principles inside and outside of the laboratory or field setting.

Mathematical literacy is the ability to understand math, as well as being able to analyze and solve mathematical equations.

 

Goas set in the fall of 2021: ​​​

  • I will better understand math; applying past techniques as best I can to achieve a more straightforward way to analyze and solve problems.​

  • I will discover new and faster ways of remembering formulas, applying helpful techniques, and better memorizing the steps within mathematics.

  • I will demonstrate a proficient understanding of statistics—specifically frequency distribution, boxplots, and histograms.

Mathematical Literacy

Learners will demonstrate mathematical literacy through solving problems, communicating concepts, reasoning mathematically, and applying mathematical or statistical methods, using multiple representations where applicable.
